Shamisen playing experience

Experience Overview

Experience Overview
Have you ever been moved by the timbre of the unique and elegant shamisen(three-stringed Japanese musical instrument)?
The timbre of shamisen, so traditional that it makes us think of the beautiful scenery of Japan, has always been something we adore.
At “Keikai”, the shamisen experience center within 7 minutes’ walk from the station, those without any experience of playing a musical instrument are welcome too. The teacher teaches you everything from how to hold shamisen to how to use a plectrum with care, and in the end, you can even experience playing a simple song. Of course, they lend you shamisen for free as well; you just have to bring yourself. Let’s learn from the teacher who plays as a professional shamisen player, and experience the authentic shamisen.

Recommendation Points

・You can play a song on the authentic and traditional musical instrument.
・You do not have to prepare or bring something; just bring yourself and you can have fun.
・The teacher teaches you from the very basics; even beginners can enjoy playing.

Let's Start

First, learn how to hold shamisen and how to use a plectrum.
Practice how to put your fingers on shamisen.
Next, learn how to read a musical score. It might seem difficult at first, but the teacher tells you how easy it is to read.
And then, practice shamisen techniques such as “sukui” and “hajiki”.
Practice some chords.
Try playing a song to finish off.

Visitor Feedback

It was the first time for me to see a shamisen as well as to experience it, but it was really fun. Shamisen was not too hard, for it was a bit like a guitar. Using a spectrum was interesting; there is no such thing for other stringed instruments.

The teacher was very nice, easy-going and taught me a lot with care.

Message from Staff

We would like visitors to be interested in shamisen, the traditional Japanese musical instrument, and the experience is a great way.

We would like people to know what kind of a musical instrument shamisen is, and to experience shamisen at least once in their life; that is the spirit of our shamisen school.

Please drop by casually.
